SHUTTER RELEASES

GETTING IN CONTROL - Shutter releases

When you need to fire your camera without moving it during a long time exposure, then you need an external shutter release.
They come in an array of modes;
1. Syringe type cable release (tethered to camera), roughly 30cms in length
2. Trigger type cable release (tethered to camera), roughly 30cms + in length
3. Electronic shutter release, with other functions (tethered to camera), roughly 30cms to 1 metre in length
4. Wireless remote shutter release (not tethered). Operates from 30cms - 100 metres
5. CamRanger type (wifi not tethered), operates up to 50 metres.

CAMRANGER

This is a really cool little device that has been around for about 10 years. It attaches to the camera via a USB - HDMI cable. The device transmits its own WiFi, and it is this that communicates with your SmartPhone, Tablet, Laptop or Desktop computer to fire the camera and transmit files. This means that you can leave your camera with the CamRanger outside beside a birds nest for example, and you monitor via your devices, and fire the shutter from inside your home. You see what the camera sees, change focus etc, and you can capture either stills or movie footage. You can also do time lapses and image stacks.
