RIM LIGHTING
LIGHTING - Rim lighting
This lighting has similarities with silhouettes and backlighting, but in this case you are looking for an effect where just the edges or rim of your subject are illuminated. You can even include the light source in the composition. You can underexpose to create this effect on location, or set it up in the studio intentionally. In the studio this effect can be achieved with just a single off camera flashlight positioned directly behind your subject and pointed at the camera. This will illuminate just the edges. The images here are a mixture of all three of the above really, but because the aim was to illuminate the edges or rims, then the title of rim lighting can be used.
